Location Notes, a program for the BlackBerry® Smartphone, allows you to save GPS coordinates and notes or information about that place in a small database. Location Notes includes the following features:

  • Save notes and extended information along with GPS coordinates
  • Sort list of notes by name or by datestamp
  • Export saved notes to a BlackBerry memo
  • Send individual saved notes via e-mail
  • Send entire group of saved notes as kml file attachment: explore your notes and results in Google Earth
  • View/Map saved coordinates in Google or BlackBerry Maps
  • Convert Latitude/Longitude coordinates to Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) coordinates
  • Works with both internal GPS sensors, and external Bluetooth GPS devices such as the GlobalSat BT-359

Location Notes is currently at Version 1.4.0

For your convenience, there is an OTA download for the 8100, 8200, 8300, 8700, 8800, 8900, 9000 or 9600 series BlackBerry smartphones. A Desktop download is also available.

Smartphone System Requirements:

  • OS 4.2.1 or higher
  • GPS receiver (your GPS must be on for this application to work).
  • 61kB of free memory.

There is also an OTA download specifically for the BlackBerry Storm, or Storm 2 and Desktop download for the Storm running device OS 4.7.x.x, or Storm 2 running 5.0.x.x. (the 4.7 version will work with the 5.0 operating system).

For the Storm:

  • OS 4.7 or higher (> 4.7.0.75 in order for BlackBerry Maps to work correctly)
  • GPS receiver (your GPS must be on for this application to work).
  • 67kB of free memory.

Version 1.4.0:Added date field to stored information; and ability to sort records based on name or date. Added the ability to convert longitude and latitude to Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) coordinates and store that in the notes field. Updates to menu system. Added an option to invert the altitude value from GPS (workaround for RIM bug).
Version 1.2.0:Added export as kml file, added ability to "delete all" current notes. Fixed warnings about empty lists, etc.
Version 1.0.1:Initial Version.

The trial counts the number of location saves or updates performed. If you want to continue using it past the trial period (five saves), please buy the license key for only $2.99.
(Checking the operation of the GPS does not count against the trial use.)
Don't forget to provide the PIN number for your BlackBerry smartphone in the "Instructions to Merchant". Your BlackBerry PIN is an eight digit hexadecimal number, such as: 32b1f483.
Use Alt+Cap+H to find your PIN number if you don't already know it.
